Bad Tidings is the second episode of the seventh series of the popular ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders and was originally aired on 4th January 2004.
Synopsis
Sergeant Scott arrives from London as Troy's replacement, and goes right to work on the investigation of the brutal killing of a local woman who was not all that well liked. Meanwhile Cully Barnaby makes a point to contact four old school chums, and uncovers a number of mysteries herself -- some of which may be connected with the murder of the woman (and the next murder, too.)
Plot
After a quarrel with her husband at the Midsomer Mallow residents association's Spanish Evening, Fiona Thompson walks home, but never arrives. She is found the next morning in Chaney's Field, having been stabbed to death. DCI Barnaby investigates with his new Detective Sergeant, Dan Scott, in tow. An early suspect is the village odd job man, Jacob Stokes. Cully Barnaby meanwhile organizes a get-together with some old school friends, one of whom is the dead woman's neighbor. She finds that her friends have changed and that they now have little in common. A second murder during the village's open garden day leads the police to a secret shared by Cully's friends and the identity of the murderer.
