Bernice is a character appearing in the episode Small Mercies of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders.
A cheery, simple woman, she worked as chambermaid and general factotum at the hotel in Little Worthy. She had an unhappy relationship with Christa who found fault and insulted her at every turn, but was happy with the girl's father, Edward Palfrey. He didn't like the way Christa treated Bernice, either, leading to a tension-filled home situation.
It is eventually revealed that Bernice is the illegitimate daughter of Bob Moss and Hilary Compton.
When questioned about her life before she came to Little Worthy, Bernice said that her adoptive mother died as a result of drinking something that didn't agree with her, perhaps a hint of a first murder that might have been committed by Bernice.
