Blood Wedding is the second episode of the eleventh series of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders and was originally aired on 6th July 2008.

Synopsis[]

Cully is finally getting married and Tom Barnaby is anxious to keep costs down as Joyce brings in a camp wedding planner. More dramatic is the union between aristocrat Ned Fitzroy and Beth Porteous when maid of honour Marina is found skewered to a wardrobe in one of the bedrooms. The Fitzroy family's lordly attitude does not help the investigation and then estate manager Robin Lawson and old family servant Peggy are both murdered. Barnaby discovers that both were aware of a sinister Fitzroy family secret, culminating in the events of the Blood Wedding.

Trivia[]

Romantic Entanglements:

  • Robin Lawson was Lady Fitzroy's illegitimate son. He was half-brother to Ned and Harry Fitzroy.
  • Harry Fitzroy, Ned's brother, and Beth Porteous, Ned's fiancée, were having an affair, before and after her wedding.
  • Marina Fellowes and Marcus Fitzroy, Ned and Harry's uncle, had a relationship. Marcus was still in love with her, but...
  • Marina, Beth's Maid of Honor, was in love with Lord Ned Fitzroy, who married Beth. Marina threatened to out him, so he killed her.
  • After Ned got arrested, Harry wanted to continue with Beth, but she was happy being Lady Fitzroy, albeit without husband, who is in jail.

Trials and Tribulations of former DS Gavin Troy:

  • Almost runs into Barnaby on the way to Cully's wedding. His car goes off the road, but Troy comes out unscathed.
  • The scene where Barnaby and Troy nearly collide is a nod to Tainted Fruit where a similar incident took place right down to a red car being involved, except it was Troy driving the police car that time. Barnaby makes reference to it once Troy is in the car with him by observing Troy was never a very good driver.

Quotes[]

Sally Fielding: You've got a very suspicious mind.
DS Ben Jones: I'm a police officer. 'Suspicious mind' is on my CV.

DS Ben Jones: Not very talkative, are they, the Fitzroys?
DCI Tom Barnaby: Old families, Jones. In a house this size there are many cupboards.
DS Ben Jones: And many skeletons.

DS Ben Jones: [to Barnaby] It's typical of the upper classes. If it's not fox hunting or polo, it's sex.
