The Incident at Cooper Hill is the second episode of the eighteenth series of the popular British crime drama Midsomer Murders and originally aired 13th January 2016.

Synopsis[]

After mysterious lights appear over Cooper Hill, apparent location for several UFO sightings, forest ranger Felicity Ford is found dead and wrapped in black ooze. Ufologists arrive in the area for tours run by enterprising Abigail Tonev and DCI Barnaby and DS Nelson learn that one of them, Carter Faulkner, had a run-in with Felicity over parking his trailer in the woods. Before she died she had tried to ring her father, a group captain at a radar station - who denies receiving any call - and she was also having an affair behind her future husband's back. The idea of extraterrestrials seems credible when Abigail has a close encounter of the third kind but following two more slayings Barnaby is able to provide an earthly solution to The Incident at Cooper Hill.

Plot[]

Introduction[]

The episode starts in the woods of Cooper Hill after dark where forest ranger Felicity Ford is on patrol during the night shift when all of a sudden, a light from the sky blinds her during driving and she is forced to stop the car. Withoutwarning, the winds get fiercer and fiercer as Felicity retreats into her car in fear of whatever might be lurking.

Act 1[]

Throughout the opening credits, we cut back to Felicity's Jeep left abandoned the next morning, with the doors wide open and her left boot standing on the road. At the Barnaby house, John and Sarah are debating about how to celebrate his birthday celebration with Sykes and Betty, who answers the phone when Charlie Nelson calls him. John is summoned to the scene where Nelson relays info that aliens have been reported cropping up in the village of Cooper Hill and that Ford went missing last night as was reported by her mother, Veronica. Along with the disattached shoe, Barnaby discovers a cell phone in the car and orders Nelson to find out who she was contacting. The police are then directed to an area in the woods with a bag in the middle where they find Ford's body, wrapped up in some sort of coocoon held together by a black, sticky substance.

Meanwhile at the local hotel/pub, the Crown Inn, the manager Victor Campbell comes in to tell the receptionist and his daughter, Orla, that someone's waiting for her and heads off for work while her mother, Nadine, asks where he's been. She meets up with her other employer Nathan Tonev and his mother Abigail at their garage, where she performs a quick fix on the front hood of a bus full of guillible UFOlogists that they earn money from; at least four times a day. Before taking off, Nathan and his mother talk about someone in the past-tense.

Barnaby tells Veronica that her daughter is dead as she breaks down in despair while Nelson gets a call. Brogan Steele, Felicity's fiancee, enters the house to offer his condolences and states that he last saw her in the morning having to deal with an illegally parked camper related to UFO sightings while Nelson states that her last call was traced to an RV dealer. Brogan suspects it may have been for her father, stern RAF Captain Jeremy Ford, who Veronica states was hated by her daughter. Barnaby arrives at an industrial factory in Cooper Hill that makes high-grade vehicles where he's greeted by Sergeant Yasmin Ali, who redirects him to Captain Ford. He gives an alibi that he was working all night long, though never tells Barnaby of his relationship with Felicity as he hardly knew her. Ford asks Ali if she called his daughter last night, though she says Felicity attempted to reach him, but hung up because he was in his quarters. When Barnaby asks why her call wasn't transferred, Ford says he did not want to be disturbed. Nelson, meanwhile, locates the "illegally parked" trailer to look for UFO fanatic Carter Faulkner, though instead meets his son, Dillon, who lies about his father not being in the camper. Upon showing a photo of a Felicity, Dillon calls her a pest as Carter peeks from the curtained window as soon as Nelson drives off.

Back at the forensics lab, Doctor Kam Karimore suspects that Felicity drowned in the black liquid as she and the two detectives ponder where it was sold or came from. The scene then cuts to somewhere else where a hooded figure in a gas mask, most likely the killer, is looking over a vat that contains a pool of black liquid; similar to the one that Ford's corpse was slathered in.

Act 2[]

At their office desks in the police station, Barnaby pulls up a website that consists of occult videos that document UFO sightings in Cooper Hill; leading him to wonder why an alien would want to visit this village and how the murder staged it to look like so. Nelson pulls up an evidence bag of a ring that was found around her neck and that Felicity’s fiancé was an environmentalist. Meanwhile, the UFO Sightseeing Tour shows up for an emergency food stop at the Crown, even though Nadine objects that they're past the appointed date. Abigail drops a bombshell that Felicity is dead while Nadine catches her husband doing something in the kitchen. Back at the DCI investiation, Brogan tells Barnaby that he hardly knew Felicity and didn't share her faith. He states to sleeping in the shed last night and that Abigail was unaware of his presence.

Inside the camper, Carter reviews aerial footage of the UFO spotting location while Nelson and Barnaby arrive to ask of their involvement with Felicity. Dillon states he saw something fly in the sky while his Dad states that they've been waiting for someone to come back to them. Carter proceeds to tell them a story of a UFO abduction that occured in August 1984 where a guy went missing after a light in the sky appeared and vanished.

Jeremy comes home and gets in an argument with Veronica as he states he was sober while she cries that he was never there for her or Felicity. As soon as they notice Barnaby walking in on their quarreling, Mr. Ford asks if any updates have been made on the murder investigation. Barnaby asks them if Felicity was in a relationship with someone else as he gives them the ring, leading Mrs. Ford to state that Brogan saw her wearing it; despite his claims of never doing so, and that she lied anout where it came from. Barnaby instructs the two to think about who could've been her significant other.

Back at the Crown, Nadine tells her husband that Felicity is dead while he reports that the booking system has gone haywire. She reminds him that he was in the woods yesterday while Captain Ford summons the two into their office for a meeting. At the same time, Nadine catches her daughter walking off to somewhere and shouts that she needs to "open it" sometime.

At the station, Nelson says the UFO expert manages the website and wrote three books about the UFOs while Barnaby states he interacted with Felicity and that the fiancé was lying. Barnaby comes home to find Sykes hiding from Sarah who’s on the phone with someone about a "work thing."

In the woods of Cooper Hill at nightfall, Abigail is out on her own driving the tour bus when it breaks down on the road as she's forced to call her son for a pick-up when the light appears in the sky again as the wind gets heavy and a flashlight spots down on her. Abigail runs for her life as it follows her, though she loses consciousness and falls down into a ditch; where she passes out as the "UFO" cruises away.

Act 3[]

Kam gives a chemical analysis on Ford's body, determining that the liquid is full of carbon nitrogen and that it may have liquified on another planet. However, the material is problematic because the polymer doesn’t exist and nothing like it has been produced commercial or industrial, but rather experimental. Kam states she needs to do further research while Nelson finds that the ring Felicity owned was a posie ring that came in pairs with an inscribed message that reads “Hooter minus helsein” in Germany; “keeper of my heart.” Barnaby suspects that this special someone was Sgt. Ali because she was in Germany three months ago for a training mission. He confronts her on this where she bluntly removes the ring around her neck and confirms that she had been dating Felicity for six months. She kept it secret not because of homophobia in the armed forces, but rather how her parents would react. Ali states she was on duty the whole night Felicity died and that the radar picked up some anomalous signals while Ford orders her to come into his office for pressing matters. Barnaby advises her to come to the station later on.

Nelson phones him an update to come to the hospital as Abigail was admitted due to looking for new routes at night. Barnaby interviews her where she explains her sighting and that the UFO was as big as a car with deafening eyes and blinding lights. Abigail remembered seeing an indescribable symbol on the underside that’s hard to explain as Nelson gives her a notepad for her to draw that looks like a dot with triangular lines. She states that the UFO was hunting her. Barnaby suspects the killer is in Cooper Hill, though before leaving, Nelson witness the Faulkners arguing about something before checking into the hospital.

At the crown, they meet up with Mrs. Campbell so they can interview her husband who shows up for questioning. Victor tells them that he was at Felicity's van on a run the day before yesterday and that he knew her Dad since they both served in the Royal Air Force on Commander 5. Barnaby notes she regularly called with Victor, though he asserts Nadine that it was nothing like that as Jeremy asked him to keep in contact by "spying" on his daughter. When told about Felicity's relationship with Ali, Victor admits to telling Ford before Felicity died and that it would be best to keep the arrangement between the two of them. Barnaby strolls into the street to find Ford and confronts him about lying to meet with Victor. Ford scoffs at wanting to kill his daughter for her “lesbianism” and Barnaby tells him about a craft flying around the village with a flashing radar, though Ford states that he’s doing nothing to solve his daughter’s death.

Banraby comes home as Sarah gives her a crying Betty for him to a diaper change while she walks off to talk with Nelson in the car, which her husband notices behind her back. Meanwhile, back in the Cooper woods, one of the women from the sightseeing group, Cath Jones, goes for a walk by herself at night when she notices a black object suspended from one of the trees. This leads her to yet another "cocoon" that has a dead body inside with a hand sticking out and a locket ring; meaning Sergeant Ali is the second murder victim. Jones screeches in terror as she runs off into the night for help.

Act 4[]

The police are called to the scene where Kam states the liquid was hardened while Barnaby suspects that a team is required to transport the bodies and that they need a facility to produce or store it. Nelson notes that Ali last received a voicemail from Brogan who threatened her about the affair as Barnaby plays it to him and Veronica. He admits that he was suspicious about the affair for a while and wanted to believe her as she followed "Flick" (her nickname) to a clearing the morning on the day she died where he watched her wrap her arms around Yasmine; looknig at each other in ways she never did with him. Brogan watched until Yasmin left, yet never bothered to confront Felicity as he felt sick and numb. Brogan denies to meeting Ali and only wanted to scare her while saving himself from Felicity. Hearing something break in the other room, Barnaby finds a broken glass bottle next to Veronica as Barnaby tells her she kept the affair in the dark from her. She wasn’t angry about her being gay, though besides preferring for her to be with Brogan, she states that Allie was RAF and that there’s no romance in being a Force’s wife since they leave you in a place to rot after retiring.

Barnaby and Nelson map the remote spot near the base and the ranger’s office while Kam notes she found the same material on Felicity’s body and that it came from the black poplar; ranged from an area called Hunter’s Guild. Nelson and Kam arrive at the tree where they talk of a Greek myth about a guy named Helios, related to the tree as they see someone running from the woods. Nelson loses him, though Kam calls for him to come back as she's discovered that someone was buried here. Meanwhile, Barnaby arrives at the base in time to interview Ford while the flag is lowered in lieu for Ali. He states that he last saw her in his office and when Barnaby asks why she asked for time off, he states that she wanted to grieve for Felicity and that the signal on the "spacecraft" was nothing but a drone prank. Ford dismisses himself to inform Mrs. Ali that her daughter is dead. Nelson informs Barnaby about the burial spot and Kam adds that it was done years ago, yet may have been excavated; both theorizing that the girls knew about it and were killed for it. Nelson brings up the man that was eavesdropping on them in the woods as they venture deeper into the woods. Barnaby notices something peculiar as he removes a pile of dead branches to show what appears to be a vault door for a bunker.

He and Nelson walk all the way down when they noticed that it belonged to the Tonev's. Deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole they go, Barnaby quips they need more light when they notice that the tunnels connect to the base as the networks were built during the war for supply storage. Nelson orders him to look at a machine that features the diagram with the labels "Omega IV" when soldiers surround them and bring them to Ford. He scolds them for trespassing while Barnaby tells him about the symbol on the machinery and spacecraft, though the captain responds that the base has not been in use for years and that everything in there is junk kept for storage. Barnaby tells Ford that officers have a permit to search the bunker and that he is acting transparent about the whole case.

Act 5[]

Back at home, Sarah is phone with someone about plans for a secret project when John scolds her for planning his birthday as he feeds Betty. She states that she was actually phoning about a retirement party and that her meeting with Nelson the other was about an arrangement for the dinner. She complains to Betty behind John's back that he's impossible to work with as Sykes barks.

Back to the lab, Kam pulls up a satellite feed of the burial spot and suspects that it was dug up 20 to 30 years ago and that corduroy was used by the perpetrator to make excavation easier without getting caught. It is noted that 16 men went missing between 1980 and 1990 with one particular suspect being Eric Tonev, husband of Abigail and father of Nathan, whom was reported missing years ago as he wore corduroy trousers. Barnaby and Nelson meet with the son to tell him about the discovery where he states several things. He mentions that he was 10 when his father disappeared, his Dad had worked as chief engineer in the base, and that he knew Felicity as kids since both their dads work there. Nathan "suggests" that it was dig up to conceal the crime and that she may have paid the price for finding out about it.

Back at the Crown Inn, Orla chews out her mother for reading through her mail while she states that it's just an unconditional offer. While that's going on, Nelson is interviewing Victor who states that the labs and workshops were two seperate parts of the base and that Eric Tonev was a "traitor" who was set to face life behind bars for leaking documents to the Russians. Ford was ready to arrest him, but failed to because Eric "runned" off.

Relaying back to the campsite, Carter realizes their late for a mission since Dillon failed to wake him up and demands him to keep fixing a signal, though he states there's no point in it since he already tried and walks off on him. Faulkner yells at him to come back, though instead, Barnaby arrives to ask him about the spacecraft. Faulkner suspects that it came from a nearby galaxy like Andromeda and when asked about anything else he saw about that night, he only mentions the spaceship. When moving onto Eric Tonev, he denies ever knowing about him and is disbelieved to hear he disappeared the same night as the encounter Faulkner had. Faulkner doubts it was actually a military aircraft he saw that night, though Barnaby plants the possibility of it being an experimental project. When Barnaby shows him the diagram on the document sheet, he profoundly believes that the base managed to capture the ship for technological purposes and that another ship has come to Midsomer to look for the other one. He goes off to warn the other aliens that they need to stay away from there while Barnaby can only wonder in pure silence about what he just heard him say.

At the station, Nelson concludes that Cooper Hill was the Minister of Defence's main research facility throughout the 1980's, Barnaby thinks that security services and Ford quietly killed Eric Tonev, though questions why he would go to the extremes to off his own daughter.

Back at the campsite, Faulkner tries to get a TV to work as he prepares for another alien encounter when the radar picks up something. He climbs up to the top of his RV as the object gets closer and closer. Winds get louder and louder as Faulkner notices the triangular-shaped "spaceship" which amazes him as it shines a spotlight on Faulkner. He asks for it to come back and before he can get a picutre of it, it lifts back up into the night as he goes to make contact to someone, presumably his son, about what he just saw. All of a sudden, the ship explodes in a far off distance and the mysterious murderer in the gas mask whacks him on the head from behind. Faulkner is then emerged in a tub of black liquid as the third and final victim of the episode.

Act 6[]

While at the crime scene of Faulkner's murder, Barnaby is notified by Nelson on phone about the explosion of the spacecraft as he speaks with the witness Brogan; saying that he found the body around 6:00 AM as he was there for a routine and last spoke to him before moving on. Barnaby brings up to Brogan the coincidences of the three victims wanting to talk with him before he died and warns him not to make any travel plans any time soon. Kam brings up a discrepancy with Faulkner's body as unlike the other "cocoons" they found, his dipping was a rushed job since it didn't have time to harden; along with the killer using a van to get around as evidenced by footprints and tire tracks near the area. She then tells Barnaby that the reason polymer degrades quickly is because its an old batch and wishes him a happy birthday. Barnaby makes it to the crash site where Nelson informs him that the spacecraft has decades old technology, yet used a state-of-the-art control panel that piloted it and a thermal imaging camera that shattered on impact. A duo of military jeeps show up as Ford informs the police that the aircraft is the Ministry of Defence's property while John states that he is the one trespassing their crime scene. When asked about Eric, the stern captain says nothing as Barnaby orders his men to escort them off the site, though Ford objects that won't be necessary; much to Barnaby's insistance. Nelson remarks that he rather enjoyed watching Barnaby tell him off while he asks him to be notified if forensics came up with anything.

Checking back at the hospital, Nathan informs Barnaby that he already told Abigail about Eric Tanev who mopes that she never understood him running off like that until now. Barnaby asks who murdered him and if the allegations linked to him were tied to his death, though she says that they were nonsense and that despite his impulses, Eric was a patriot to his country and the investigation was only base politics; on account of Ford's axe grinding to get funding for Omega-4. When Barnaby asks what it was, Nathan says it was a project that Dad was working on and Abigail mentions that Ford cooked up lies to make him look bad; along with revealing that his parents were refugees from Germany.

Back at the crash site, Nelson discovers an exhaust valve from the wreckage that looks similar to the one that he saw Nathan fondle in his garage. He goes off to meet Orla wondering where Nathan is, who says he is out about and identifies the item bagged as evidence. He asks if its for cars, though Orla gets increasingly nervous and Nelson asks what's in her rucksack. In an undisclosed shed, Dillon is loading some metal containers onto a low-height trailer when he sees Orla come in and asks if she got everything. Nelson then appears behind him and bluntly admits that he's impressed in what they did. The two are then taken into the station for questioning where Nelson informs Barnaby that their conspiring first started after Dylan wandered through the tunnels for months and found the original Omega-4 machine. Rusty and in dire need of an overhaul, he transferred it to the sawmill piece by piece and hired Orla as his mechanical adviser. Using the original drawing and parts nicked from Tonev's garage, both teens put it back together. They have no alibi for the polymer as they did not know what they were talking about. Barnaby and Nelson each split up to interview Dillon and Orla respectively with Faulkner stating that he had heard it been described so many times and chose not to tell his Dad because it would've ruined the illusion of something he spent 30 years obsessing over. When Barnaby asks why he put Omega-4 air, Dillon reveals that his Dad was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and that very recently, it became terminal. After hearing him worry about what he'd leave behind, Dylan decided to make it flyable so he'd give him and his followers something to believe him. He states that he was careful to keep it away from him if he "sussed," though overcome with anger over Carter blaming him for things going wrong, he gave him the UFO for a few seconds and then blew it up; leading him to wish he hadn't done it at all and only hopes that Dad believed right to the very end. OIn the other room, Olla tells Nelson that she was tired of her parents mapping out her life for her and that she had interests besides university. She proudly admits taht Omega-4 was a joy to work on and when the DCI wonders how Mom and Dad will react, she reckons that Mom may hit the roof, though will be proud because unbeknownst to some, she was part of the Omega-4 team. Checking back to the Crown Inn, Nadine admits that she was the computer programmer on the team and that the Omega-4 was designed by Eric as an unmanned, low-altitude craft intended for reconnaissance missions ala a drone. Barnaby asks about its "success" which leads her to state that it never got past the prototype stage, due to errors in the navigation system; leading Orla to chime in that it needed a GPS. When asked about Eric being accused for selling sensitive information, Nadine says it was made up by Ford which causes Victor to get defensive as he states the captain had a witness testify against him. However, Nadine tells him that not only did the witness lie, but that it was her because Ford vand Tonev did not get along; the latter thinking the former was a vicious jobsworth and showed no respect. Barnaby suspects this would've angered him when Nadine drops a bombshell that he was sleeping with Veronica. Nadine states that Jeremy came forth to her to talk about Eric and Veronica running away together because he knew she'd lie for him. As she was dating Victor at the time, Ford warned Nadine she'd transfer him if she didn't do what he asked. There was supposed to be a testimony, though Eric disappeared the night they tested the Omega-4 and the case remained abandoned for quite some time. Nadine quietly tells Victor she's sorry while Nelson and Barnaby put out a search warrant for Ford.

Barnaby checks back into Brook Cottage where he catches Mrs. Ford heading down the stairs with her baggage as she intends to leave Cooper Hill, due to the loss of Felicity giving no further reasons to stay; while hinting the "lovely city" of Berlin as her future home. Barnaby suspects the person who told her was Eric Tonev as she reminds Veronica of their planned eloping. She bluntly admits it and that their bags were ready to go, though Eric got "cold feet" for reasons unknown to her as he never showed up. After being told he was murdered, Veronica can only wonder who would do such a thing when Barnaby brings up his husband's motive about knowing the affair, though she defends that Jeremy is not a killer. Meanwhile at the hospital, Nathan is ready to take Abigail "home" when she requests she have a moment to herself. Abigail pulls a phone from her purse and calls someone for help since she's in "trouble."

Act 7[]

Meeting up with Nelson at the garage, Barnaby tells him that Abigail Tonev was aware of her husband running away and that they need to find her quickly. Inside, they notice Captain Ford coming in through the back door as he stated that he was the one who received Abigail's "help" message. When Barnaby asks why she called him specifically, Ford refers to them being friends of some sort and that she had a right to know about her husband eloping with Eric since he was the only who knew beforehand. Nelson directs Barnaby's attention to a cooler with a hatchlock on it as Barnaby pries it open. Ford wonders why him telling Abigail about the affair is relevant to the investigation, though at that moment, the trunk opens to reveal a human skeleton, presumably Eric Tonev, cramped inside; which leads Barnaby to respond that yes indeed, it is relevant. Out for the hunt on Abigail, Barnaby maps the crime together that she killed her husband in 1984 upon finding out of his eloping when an officer tells him through the phone that they spotted a black van heading for Hunter's Clearing. It turns out to be Nathan's as a nervous Abigail asks him why they're stopping here. Nathan begins a long and insane rant where he remembers the police coming to their house and being told that Eric Tonev ran off, though he reveals what really happened as he heard Abigail respond to the phone from his bedroom door and saw her come home with blood and mud on her hands & clothes; concluding that she caught up with his father and killed him. She cries that its not true and even though he "forgives" her, Nathan tells her its time to stop and to put an end to all of it as he pulls out a gun; subtly mentioning that they and Eric will be family again. Not far behind, Barnaby and Nelson park their car in front of the abandoned black van where Barnaby finds a green box of bullets in the driver's seat as Nelson directs his attention to the trunk, which contains both the gas mask and the vat of black liquid; leading Barnaby to call for back-up.

Barnaby ventures into the woods where Abigail is pleading for her life at gunpoint as he calls Nathan to stop, though he notices the DCI and fires his gun at him, although is able to duck before the bullet hits. Nelson rushes to his aid, though Barnaby instructs him to get down as Nelson fires another round at him. Nathan drags a hysterical Abigail deeper and deeper into the bunker while Barnaby and Nelson follow their trail. At the bottom of steps, Nathan loses his footing and his Mom makes a run for it, though he fires another bullet at her. The DCIs enter the bunker once again as Barnaby calls out for Nathan to surrender since they know he was only looking out for his mum and that Felicity must've figured out it was Eric who was buried in Hunter's Ground. He deduces that Felicity came to Nathan first as he should've known first about Abigail's past. In another room, Nelson discovers some liquid dripping from the ceiling; presumably the sticky, black substance. When Barnaby calls out how Nathan "repayed" Felicity for her act of decency, he states that he didn't have a choice since she would've taken it to the police and wanted to buy some time for Abigail by holding Ford off. Barnaby bluntly states he planned her death, though Nathan regrets doing so as he liked "Flick" (her nickname). Moving onto Sgt. Ali, he states her death was bad timing due to mourning for Felicity in the woods, as Barnaby adds, when she saw Nathan move Eric's body from the ground so he could place it in the garage. Once again, Barnaby calls Nathan's bluff as he notes how meticulously planned the bodies and crime scenes were while he finds a crying Abigail and calls her for her father's resin. Nathan shouts he was trying to protect her reputation when Barnaby asks why Faulkner had to die, responding that he saw him dump the resin in the woods. Upon hearing clanking from the other side of the room as Nelson makes his way in, he orders both him, Barnaby, and Abigail up against the wall. John tells Tonev to think it through while he states he already has and that its time for him and Abby to end it; "quick and clean," which Barnaby states is not what his mom would want. Nathan tries to continue his murder-suicide mission as the alternative for both of them is prison, which he knows that Abigail will never cope with, and states he will shoot Barnaby dead if he has to get to his mom. John refuses to comply as Tonev orders her son to put the gun down. He once again defends that its for her own good, though she says its time for everyone to know the truth. Nathan still wants to go through with the homicide as everyone will hate them for it, though Abigail states that Eric wouldn't want him to go out this way because he loved him very much. Abigail apolofizes for taking his life away as Nathan begins sobbing as they share one last hug together while Nelson confiscates the gun.

Back to the surface world, Nathan is hauled away by police and before Abigail is arrested, she states she caught up with Eric when he went to pick up Veronica and begged him to stay as Nathan would never get over him leaving them behind, though he didn't listen and walked away. In anger, she picked up a rock and smashed him with it as Eric died in her arms. As the two are taken away, Nelson circles back to the birthday night, though Barnaby wants to have a pint first and notes that he has other plans. Charlie says he could change them and that Sarah said there's no need to make a fuss, though Barnaby insists there's no need as she was right.

Epilogue[]

Later afternoon, Barnaby comes home to find the lights shut off and no one responding or moving until Sykes barks from the living room. He turns on the lights to find Sarah, Betty, Nelson, and Kam waiting for him with a cake and film projector as they shout "Surprise!" Barnaby once again frets that he didn't ask for a party, though Sarah says that Nelson and Kam popped in by the off chance. They give Barnaby his present to unwrap which turns out to be a film reel since Barnaby mentioned he wanted to watch an old film. As John gets the reel into position, Kam gets the chance to hold Betty as Nelson comments how good she is with babies. When he asks Sarah how someone can get under his skin, she states by marrying John. With the lights on and drinks for the adults, a vintage 1950's film named "Attack of the Flying Saucers," produced by Triglobal Movies, plays on the scrimdrop for everyone's amusement except Sykes who whimpers as the episode comes to an end.
