Dr. George Bullard was the pathologist working with the Causton police and the husband of Catherine "Kath" Bullard. Bullard goes about his work with a professional skill and a cheery demeanour and is a good friend of Tom Barnaby.

Bullard was a regular through to series 14, apart from a brief spell when his place was taken by Dr. Dan Peterson played by Toby Jones.  In later episodes he often played a greater role in the plot, even making a sterling appearance in the Midsomer Worthy Choir in Death in Chorus where he takes up the role of conductor when Laurence Barker (Peter Capaldi) disappears.

In one episode he admits to the "accidental" death of his wife while on tour at a slaughter house. In The Oblong Murders Bullard asks Tom's cousin John to go and find Lucy Oliver, the daughter of some friends and it is also revealed that he has a sister named Millie who is a dog minder, and they leave Sykes the dog with her.
