John Field is a character appearing in the episode Dark Autumn of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders. He pretended to have a girlfriend who never called him. He always "called her." He committed 4 murders and one attempted murder. He was obsessed with his mother, Tammie, who was a prostitute and died when she was 40. In his room he had memorabilia of his mother's. Before each murder he played big band music from the 50's. First he killed Dave because he “Preyed on Women.” He nearly severed his head with a billhook. Next was Debbie who wouldn’t play the part John wanted her to (of Tammie). She was also killed with a billhook. Simon "was an adulterer. "Who needs them. And I wanted one of his desks. He sold it.” Simon was killed by a desk falling on him. Owen August "wouldn’t accept his novel. He rejected everything I believed in. Everything I loved.” He was killed with his own walking stick. John attempted to kill PC Jay Nash because he wanted her to take his mother’s place. And he saw Jay with Sgt. Troy. His novel was called "Dark Autumn."
