Max Jennings is a character appearing in the episode Written in Blood of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders.
Max Jennings was the former psycho-therapist of Gerald Hadleigh. In their sessions, Gerald told Max everything about his past life such as being sexually abused by his father, murdering his father at age 13, and being a transvestite. Max Jennings betrayed him by putting all of Gerald’s secrets in his novel which became a best-seller called Far Away Hills. This lead Gerald to kill Max.
Max Jennings is invited to a meeting of the Writers’ Circle as a special guest. He leaves at the same time as Honoria and Amy Lyddiard, however, he forgot his gloves and decides to go back inside. Inside, Gerald gives him his gloves and offers Max a drink. Unbeknownst to him, Gerald poisons Max’s drink with a slow-acting poison as revenge for publishing the secrets of his past in his novel.
When the police are looking for him, his wife Selina says he went out of the country, but instead he went to a seaside cottage to meet up with his secretary Barbara Neale. It is revealed that Max Jennings has been having an affair with Barbara for two years, despite being married to Selina Jennings.
