Thanks for being willing to wear this hat! I know that it really won't be anything new for you, and that the WIki is in good hands.
I'm not going anywhere and will help when needed (see below), but I won't get in you or IonutC's way.
This Wiki is now getting 50,000 page views per week, and has room to grow even more. Lots of the new traffic is coming from the Facebook page I created. I can continue to maintain that page, but if you or a current or future admin want to do it, I'm more than willing to pass it on. So far there are only 259 "likes" on the page and I think that will be over 1,000 by end of year, so you could be seeing a lot more new editors. If this happens, it would be helpful if your Procedures and Guides were well-defined and clearly stated so that you don't have to spend time cleaning things up after them. If you don't mind, I can spend some time now on cleaning the Policies up.
You can't do that without discussing it with me or Stephenaugh. And not only you deleted my page, you also deleted the person from the episode page. Why? On what grounds? Unnecesary? It's more necesary than you think. This is the place where we need to be very accurate, to be a bit nerdy. Sorry but I can't agree with this. I wil recreate the page and revert your edit! And I advise you that in the future before deleting something to discuss it.
We don't need pages for every barely mentioned person, especially when they don't even have a name. They should have at least some importance in the episode. And you never discussed it if all this pages are necessary, because if you had i would have told you, they arent. I have let that slide long enough, but this stops now.
We talk about importance? Do I need to remind you to watch the episode to see if it did have a relevance or not? It did. The page had suficient text. So let's say it was unnecesary to have a page on it's own. That gives you no reason to delete the person from the episode page or from the Body Count. And I was very selective for which person I created a page and for which not. Trust me, I could have made far more pages for those so called "unimportant persons".
I'm not angry, but this can't stand like this. My only compromise is to leave the most unimportand characters (the ones who have no family to mention, no ocupation, absolutely no relevance in the story etc. - needs discussion) in the episode page, Body Count and Murderers list (if necesary), but no page for them.
I did watch the episode, the story with the gardener was brought up only once and hasn't any significance for the rest of the episode, and my point stands that we don't need a page for an unnamed character. I also think that only mentioned characters shouldnt be in the body count, it should be only for characters that died in the episode or at least in a flashback. Do i really have to tell you how a body count works, you need a body for that. So there is enough reason to delete them. And very selective, seriously? When a character says, i had a father and he died that's apparently enough for you to make a page.
Yes, I was very selective. Because if a character said that he/she had a father but the mentioned father didn't had any story or significance, I didn't add him. I only added the characters where you can say something about them, in combination with two of the folowing: family, ocupation, location, we see how he/she looked. Only important characters. I admit I might have added a few pages without importance, but my point stands: they should appear in episode page, Body Count and so on. And the gardener: Come On! If it hadn't been for him, Barnaby would never had discovered which murder weapon was used and he would have never been able to tie the murders to the killer. The gardener did had a significance, maybe not enought for a page but enough to be in the episode page and Body Count. And as for the Body Count who said that it should refer only to bodys seen onscreen? And I already discussed with Stephenaug that next to the totals there will be how many murders and deaths took place onscreen in angle brackets. I said what is my compromise. And we can set which character deserves a page and which not. But the characters can't dissapear entirely. This is the place where people expect 100% accuracy, every angle needs to be explored.
I can see for example that Mrs. Ebbs doesn't really need a character page, but Mrs. Peach does because we know how she looked (from the picture), who was her family and how long ago she died (3 years prior to the episode).
Who said that it should refer only to bodys seen onscreen? That's literally the definition of Body Count. And the gallery just doesn't look good when it's full of placeholder pictures. And no one expects 100% accuracy, that's ridiculous. Just look how other wikis do it.
That's what I said: deaths in total (onscreen and not). About the accuracy: .... The issue that you said about the gallery it's maybe only in The Silent Land and Blood on the Saddle , but to the other episode pages it's not that big of a deal. We will go to every single unimportant character and see which one will be left without a page but will still appear in the other pages, which one will be deleted entirely and which one will be left as it is. But the gardener will be added back, maybe without a page but he needs to be. Please discuss before you make any change. And I'll tell you now that we will not delete all of them, maybe not even a quarter.
I don't know. It would be ok I guess, but as a last resource. I have an idea about how to fix the problem on the episodes mentioned above. But before that I want to hear your opinion: what is the maximum number of characters with placeholder pictures allowed on an episode page, so that the page is enjoyable visually?
This brings up a conversation that I've been wanting to have for awhile now, and as you both are interacting on this thread, here it is: I'd like to go inactive on this Wiki.
Dr. Dementor - you and I really grew this Wiki and I'll be ever grateful for your help.
IonutC - Although relatively new here, you have recently made some great additions and seem to have the energy (time?) to continue your support.
Based on his longevity, I'd like to offer to Dr. Dementor the role of Bureaucrat. Please consider it and let me know if you would be interested. If you would like to discuss offline, send me email to "stephenaug 'at' cox 'dot' net"
There are still characters where I put a placeholder because I didn't had time (yet) to add a picture. And now if I'm looking carefully I think that characters like Mrs. Ebbs and Grandfather Langham should be deleted entirely. I'll add back the gardener which started everything without a page, if you are ok with it.
Stephenaug don't worry. The Wiki will be in good hands.
The Blood on the Saddle page looks great, but I would still permanently delete Grandfather Langham. I was too excited when I added him, he has no importance at all in the story and is only referenced once briefly.
I'm sorry that I reverted the edits you made but I cann't agree with you. I considered your changes to be incorrect.
Why? Because for example Michael Lacey was only an accomplice in the murders committed by his sister, even though he killed her. And Mrs. Wilson was an accomplice in the murder of Charles Jennings.
Please discuss with me, we need to fix this ASAP.
I'm a little concerned about how you tryied to order the characters. I think it's for the best if they are sorted after the Cast list and how they appear on IMDb. I saw that you did some changes. How do you want them to be ordered? What ideas do you have?
I think it's a good idea to give you admin rights. Thanks for all your help. I'm hoping to get ALL episodes updated with images by the end of the year. It's pretty time-consuming - also, I haven't watched all the episodes from season 7 - 16 yet.
