Don't get me wrong, I love content! The more the better. But the episodes of MM are not "serialized" in that they really don't have any connection to each other besides the characters and setting. This event was specific to a particular episode and should be strongly linked to that episode. My first thought when I read it was what category could it go in? That led me to feel that it should be incorporated into the Episode Page.
I suppose that it is also possible that you're thinking more long-term than I and may have been planning to create a Page such as "Important events in Midsomer County" or something, and then list things such as this, and the "Night of the Stag", the "Straw Woman", Little Worthy's annual boat race, etc. Now that would be great!
For now I'll do as you said. Maybe in the future there will be a page like this, even though at first I didn't think about it. About the category maybe it could have been in Accidental Death, but I realise that maybe it wouldn't fit.
In Fandom, the home page is called the "Main Page". There is a lot of special formatting code on it that makes it challenging to edit, so you have to be very careful. Remember, this is usually the first page that new users see, so presentation is important!
I don't think that displaying a single video from a particular series makes much sense, but I don't have a problem with displaying a gallery of videos as long as they can be labelled as to what they are.
I put some CSS code in that will hide the video file name, so you can put in whatever text you need. You just need to make sure that you enclose the gallery in the <div> tags that are in the following example (open this post in source mode to get a better view of the code):
<gallery captionalign="center" widths="200" hideaddbutton="true">
File:Midsomer_Murders_Series_10|<b><font size="+1">Hello, this is text that you can put under the thumbnail</font></b>
The change that you made to the widths means that now instead of 3 there are 2 videos on a row. Is it better this way, that the videos should be bigger and take more space on a page? I'm asking knowing that there will be more videos added to the Main Page.
Clearly I need to dig into the Gallery feature a bit more. I'm tryng to adjust the "Responsive" sizing, and if I try to specify the number of Columns in a Gallery, the captions styling gets broken, then when I try to adjust the caption, I get 2 captions.
By the way, on my browsers, I see 3 videos, not 2.
I know just enough about this to be dangerous! I may ask for help from Fandom staff.
We can't leave the video gallery the way it is now. I checked on a handful of PCs with different b
rowsers, and every one had the Gallery extending over into the right column. I don't know what setup you are using, but the way it is rendering now will not work for the majority of PCs/browsers.
If you can, check it out on several other systems and see if you can see what I'm talking about. I'll leave it this way for a couple hours and then we need to fix it or change it back to where it was before you made your recent changes.
Do the 6 videos that come from the new Template fill up the space or are they really small?
Most of the high volume Wikis that I checked use Templates to structure their entire Main Page. Maybe we'll do that too.
I know what you are trying to do and I think that having 3 vids across is best, as long as they don't overlap into the right column (as it shows in the image above) nor are to small. Right now, neither of us know how to do that. It's time to ask Fandom Staff. I'll post a question and see if I can get some answers.
(That was actually an automated message to you after you made your first edit...)
However, I am always excited to welcome new editors and I hope that there would be many more - especially with your attitude!
Don't hesitate to ask for help if necessary., and I request that if you have ideas about *big* changes you would like to see, please discuss with me before doing anything.
Regarding Images: 1) Fandom recommends that images that are photos such as screenshots, actor photos, etc, be .JPG format, and that the .PNG format be used only for low resolution images such as cartoon screenshots or drawings. 2) When images are uploaded, an attribution must be specified. This can easily be done by clicking on "More Options" within the upload window and selecting one of the options.
Thanks again and Welcome to Midsomer Murders Wiki!
Thanks, I will see what I can do about the images. You can tell me where I need to "repair" them. Also please tell me if I made a certain change and it was wrong. One last question: you probably know that for the episodes from season 7 till the end of season 15 there were made for each episode previews. Should they be upload?
Don't worry about the images you already uploaded. Just the ones in the future.
I'll let you know if I have an issue with any of your edits. My Admin (user:Dr. Dementor) and I both go over all edits and may make minor changes (typos, punctuation, etc) without notifying you. But we will let you know if anything is a problem.
Regarding videos, read this guide: Video_embed_tool. Fandom discourages sites to upload video files, and instead, wants us to use embedded video from one of several supported sites. I didn't check to see if these sites have MM previews.
Since we don't have an official Video policy, this will all be new. I've been studying what other TV-based Wikias have done, and for the most part, they are all very careful to try to link to only official YouTube accounts. By "Official", I mean a YouTube account that may own the rights to the Video. In our case, this woud be "Midsomer Murders", Acorn TV, ITV, PBS and maybe a few others. We should not link to videos on private, or personal accounts. The point being that they may have copywrite infringements and could be taken down which would leave us with a link to nothing.
So, referring to the above, go ahead and link to these videos using your best judgement. If we think that they may be inappropriate, we may ask for them to be removed, and then we could discuss.
I'll try to put together an official policy in the next day or two.
I added a Video to the main page and to the Series Twenty page to use as an example.
Another thing I just thought of... Try not to create a new page JUST FOR THE VIDEO. We should have a page with content about a topic, and the video should support the topic/content.
The hard part is deciding where to put them. I put a video of Neil Dudgeon reading from the script of Death in the Slow Lane at the top of the episodes page yesterday and it seems to work. Some of these others may just have to go on a page of their own such as "John Nettles: D.C.I. Barnaby & Me"
I don't know if you live in the U.S., but the third from the last video you linked to ("Midsomer Murders - Best Location E08") says that it is not available "in country" which I take it to mean that it may be available in some countries. A little concerning, but maybe we'll just have to wait to see what happens.
Take a swing at this and we'll talk about it later.
Well, I'll just skip that video for now. And about the location, for now I'm thinking to put them on the episode page that they describe (EX: Midsomer Murders - Funniest Moments E02 will go on Dead Man's Eleven). Is it ok? I want your opinion and some suggestions.
I think it best if we put them on an existing episode or character page per your example.
My first inclination was to put them at the top of the page, but maybe they should be down in a video gallery section. After looking again at the Death in the Slow Lane page, it seems like having the video at the top takes something away from the title and infobox impact.

That video is probably OK. It has been on YouTube for 10 years, so there is little likelihood that it's going away.
You do need Admin privileges to delete Files and Pages.
Even though you've only been editing here a short while, you have done some really solid things and I feel that you would make a good administrator. I have given you Admin rights. Check out This Page for a quick administrators guide.
