Michael Hipsman is a character appearing in the episode A Rare Bird of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders.

Michael is a member of the Midsomer-in-the-Marsh ornithological association. He owns a bookshop and also plays the Oboe. He met Nina Morgan 10 years ago when she was performing in Swan Lake in the Kirov Ballet. He was in the orchestra. He became obsessed by her and had a building by his house where he had images of Nina in her Odette costume. He also had photos of her in other circumstances.

Michael recorded Nina and her husband Patrick when they were arguing in their house and took photos. He sent the photos to the police station.

Murders:

  • Patrick Morgan- he dropped a net on him and then beat him with a stick and threw him in the lake. Patrick didn't deserve Nina.
  • Ian Markham- He dropped a net on him and shot him and threw him in the lake. He had to die when Michael discovered he was the father of Nina's child.

Attempted Murder: Michael is delusional and thinks that Nina is the black swan, Odile of Swan Lake. Michael plans to drown himself along with Nina in the "lake of tears." But, Barnaby and Jones manage to save Nina.
