Sir Edward "Ned" Fitzroy is a character appearing in the episode Blood Wedding of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders.
Ned is the leader of the old Fitzroy family, with a marriage to Beth Porteous, despite her wanting money and also seducing Ned's brother Harry Fitzroy. He believed in family name and title above all, pompous and ruthless enough to find himself above even his own wife and blood relatives. His mother, Lady Fitzroy, had an illegitimate son, Robin Lawson, dying prematurely not long after the excruciating birth Robin himself nearly died. Ned's former girlfriend, Marina Fellowes, the maid of honour, saw Beth and Harry making love hours after the wedding. With the scandals piling up, Ned eventually snapped when Marina swore to tell and pleaded she wanted him. He kissed her, then grabbed a knife and impaled her to the wall.
As Robin was incriminated with one of his fletching feathers for his archery arrows at the scene of Marina's murder, Robin was furious and was ready to reveal his bloodline and claim his inheritance with Lady Fitzroy's will for him. Ned accordingly shot Robin dead with a hunting arrow, marked with Beth's fletchings. Ned would continuously try to stymie the investigation by demanding respect for the family's privacy. He finally eliminated Peggy Benson, the midwife responsible for Robin's birth who raised him as her own, by piercing her ear with a hatpin while Peggy went through photo albums. His trusted friend, Randall Colquhoun, tried to stop him, but was too late.
Harry was fed up and tried to kill Ned in his sleep, but Beth stopped him. Harry again attempted on Ned with the manor's armory, but Ned grabbed his own weapon and they dueled. Beth grabbed her own weapon, but Ned pushed her down with the insult of "whore". DS Ben Jones and DCI Tom Barnaby arrived to arrest Ned. Ned gave a full confession in interrogation and admitted it was all for the family name.
