Ruth Lambert is a character appearing in the episode The Oblong Murders of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders.
The owner of the Hall, she rents it to the Oblong Society of which she is a member. Her parents had died it what was believed to have been a boating accident several years previously and upon inheriting, she turned the grounds over to the society.
When she met DS Ben Jones, who was working undercover at the Hall, she felt an instant connection with him and invited him to join her in a 'love room' which he kindly refused. He liked her as well and was uncomfortable in his undercover role with her.
When he revealed himself she was hurt and angry, and slapped him across the face. When emotions cooled, she said she was sorry they had met as they did. He agreed, but she said what ever had been there was "...broken, can't be mended."
