When old rockers Hired Gun reform to play a gig at the Midsomer Rocks Festival, paranoid lead singer Gary Cooper is convinced someone is trying to warn them off. First rock diva Mimi Clifton is electrocuted on stage, then drummer Nicky Harding is found dead in the swimming pool. Barnaby has to face the possibility that one of his rock 'n' roll heroes is a murderer. * This episode introduced the character of Simon Dixon portrayed by Sam Hazeldine.

At the Luxton Deeping Photographic Society's annual exhibition, a "shooting war" breaks out between digital-camera devotees and old-fashioned film fanatics. The situation turns deadly serious after one of the photographers winds up strangled and a trail of evidence seems to implicate Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby himself in the murder. * Kirsty Dillon did not appear in this episode.
