Tom is a character appearing in the episode The Green Man of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders.
He is somewhat of a reclusive character who is first seen wandering about the woods and village of Midsomer Worthy. His odd behaviours appear to be caused by his connection with nature, and he is seen several times interacting with the local wildlife and they appear to be very trusting of him. When he confronts a group of youths who are out hunting "thing that move" from their truck, he lectures them about killing needlessly and takes their rifle from them and tosses it into the woods. The youths quickly drive off in reaction to the "crazy man".
Later, Tom is arrested for the murder of Steven Curtis, but although Tom Barnaby does not believe that he is responsible he questions him anyway to find out if there is anything that he may know. It is during the questioning that they observe that Tom is extremely uncomfortable with being locked up inside. Tom is ultimately released after the detectives piece together Tom's background and realize that he is the son of Eric Edwards, who had been killed in 1965 and his body placed in the tunnel that had been built for a canal.
The detectives question Lord Fitzgibbon and Charlie Birkett and find that Tom had killed his father because he was beating his mother. It was apparently this event that changed Tom, and he started living off the land and shunning the people from the village.
